DONITA VALENTINE

Donita Valentine has extensive experience in the field of athletic training, including serving as the women’s basketball athletic trainer at UMBC in Baltimore County, Maryland. Prior to that, she served as the athletic trainer for Coolidge High School and the surrounding feeder schools in northwest Washington, D.C.

Donita’s passion for an active lifestyle began at an early age through her participation in various sports. Eventually, her love of movement and science led her to study sports medicine, obtaining her Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Sport Science with a concentration in athletic training from Frostburg State University, followed by a Master of Science Degree in Human Performance in 2006. She later completed her Doctor of Athletic Training Degree at A.T. Still University, where she focused on implementing a systematic process of movement screening into the pre-participation evaluation process.

Donita is dedicated to making quality healthcare available to all active individuals, especially adolescent athletes, and providing quality athletic health care to prepare students for emotional and physical participation. She also consults with Historically Black Universities to help create educational curricula to prepare students for athletic training programs.

Dr. Valentine has recently completed her tenure as Vice President-Elect for the Mid Atlantic Athletic Trainer’s Association, where she led the Annual Meeting Committee. She is also an At Large Member of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association ATs Care Commission and previously served as a committee member on the Board of Certification’s Standards Committee. Before her current At Large role with the ATs Care Commission, Dr. Valentine championed the Mid-Atlantic Athletic region in the National Athletic Trainer’s Association’s ATs Care Initiative to provide peer-to-peer critical incident support for athletic trainers through the development and implementation of a critical incident and stress management team.
